چکیده

We describe a dielectric sensor that is used to measure several biological fluids and tissues. The device consists of an LTCC wafer with a PDMS ring on top. S-parameter measurements are made, TRL calibrated and de-embedded. Two extraction methods are used to obtain the relative permittivity: conformal mapping and a method based on 2D simulations. Results are given for ethanol, 50% ethanol-water, porcine blood and calf liver over a frequency range from 2 to 110 GHz. There is a good match between the results obtained with the conformal mapping and the 2D simulations method. Results for reference fluids correspond with published data.

Dielectric properties of porous silicon for use as a substrate for the on-chip integration of millimeter-wave devices in the frequency range 140 to 210 GHz

UNLABELLED In this work, the dielectric properties of porous Si for its use as a local substrate material for the integration on the Si wafer of millimeter-wave devices were investigated in the frequency range 140 to 210 GHz. Broadband electrical characterization of coplanar waveguide transmission lines (CPW TLines), formed on the porous Si layer, was used in this respect. It was shown that the...

Millimeter-wave sensor based on a λ/2-line resonator for identification and dielectric characterization of non-ionic surfactants

Studies of biological and artificial membrane systems, such as niosomes, currently rely on the use of fluorescent tags, which can influence the system under investigation. For this reason, the development of label-free, non-invasive detection techniques is of great interest. We demonstrate an open-volume label-free millimeter-wave sensing platform based on a coplanar waveguide, developed for id...

Low-loss Grounded Elevated Coplanar Wave- Guide for Sub-millimeter Wave Mmic Applica- Tions

A new type of elevated coplanar waveguide structure is described which uses airbridge technology to suspend CPW traces above a ground plane resting on a high permittivity substrate. The transmission line is effectively shielded from the substrate and is equivalent to conductor backed CPW with an extremely thin, air substrate. It is, therefore, insensitive to parasitic substrate effects such as ...

Millimeter-Wave Microstrip Line to Waveguide Transition Fabricated on a Single Layer Dielectric Substrate

The millimeter-wave front-end module for an automotive radar sensor is generally composed of an antenna placed on the front surface of the sensor head and a millimeter-wave circuit inside it. As the antenna for the radar sensor, several types of antennas, a slotted waveguide antenna, a triplate antenna, a dielectric lens antenna, a dielectric leaky wave antenna and a microstrip antenna, have be...

Membrane-supported Yagi-uda Millimeter-wave Antennas

This paper presents the design, fabrication and “on wafer” characterization of membrane-supported YagiUda CPW fed antenna structures. The antennas were designed for the 60 GHz and 77 GHz frequency operating ranges. The 60 GHz antennas were fabricated on a semi-insulating GaAs membrane using GaAs micromachining. The 77 GHz antennas were manufactured on 1.4 μm thin SiO2/Si3N4 membranes obtained b...
